.Fine, if you won’t, I’m sure Devlin will.” I turned away from him then, not waiting for a reply, and walked to the door.“Wait,” Less than a whisper, more like a breath.“Please wait.I will tell you.”My hand dropped from the handle and I walked back to him.I crossed my arms and looked up into his face.My stance screamed impatience because, well, I was.All I asked for were a few simple answers.I wasn’t interested in his ego or how he felt about the answers, I just wanted them.Call me selfish.Seriously, what is it with guys, no, this family? To get any answers from Halo or Kamdyn you needed to practically beat them with something. This was some kind of genetic fault that needed to be weaned out.Halo shuffled from foot to foot, uncomfortable, but wouldn’t meet my eyes. The tops of his feet were much more fascinating at this point.I felt that my patience was about to break, and then he took a breath and found my eyes.“We do not feed here because most of the time it is too violent. You saw what happened when I fed… on those girls. It was not something I could control, or something I wanted to do.” He glanced away for a moment.I knew he wasn’t done, there was more, there had to be.He took a tentative step forward and took both my hands in his.“It is either too violent or too… intimate. It is an act that is too personal to do with just anyone.I never even came close to wanting to do it, I never cared about anyone enough, I guess.”So that was it.He has feelings for me he never had for anyone else. Was that why it felt the way it did? I was still confused.I understood it was intimate, but it seemed more so.It didn’t seem, by the way he was acting, like an act you “saved” yourself for, like sex.“Halo, is that why it doesn’t hurt me? Why you wouldn’t have just killed me?”“I would not have killed you.I admit, I tried to scare you, but that’s it.I knew there was something… unique about you.Something I could not let go.But in the woods, the first time I tasted you, I knew then that this was where you belong, with me.”“And Kamdyn?”He flinched.“What about him?”“What if I belong with Kamdyn?” I shook my head and dropped my hands.I walked over and fell onto the couch.I guess I understood his reasoning. When you know, whether it’s a sign or a feeling or just a fact, you know.Just like deep in my heart, all over my skin and in my bones, I knew I was meant for Kamdyn.I do not understand it here.I don’t know enough. If there are clues somehow that destiny hands out as a marker for you to find your soul mate or who you will bond with, then I needed to know.I needed to talk to Devlin.Chapter Twenty FiveI was back in Devlin’s rooms. He didn’t know I was here yet.I let myself in.Neither did Halo.I told him I was going for a walk, alone.I needed to clear my head.He protested, but eventually, I got my way.It wasn’t like I could actually go anywhere.I was stuck here at court until the bond was accepted or rejected.I did have every intention of going for a walk, a really long walk.I wondered around a while, making sure that everyone I passed noticed me.I don’t know how long I was walking when I found it, but eventually, I came to a door I recognized. The door I actually was looking for.I didn’t bother knocking, just walked in.It may have been rude, but no one was there, and I knew it.I made myself at home.I knew exactly where I would go.I wandered through the rooms until I reached his bedroom. His huge, incredible bed called to me.I climbed up and lay down, just relaxing, wishing I had this bed at home.My bed was really comfortable, but this bed, I don’t think there was a bed made that could beat this one for comfort. It was so relaxing, that even though I wasn’t tired, I could have fallen asleep right then. Now that I was away from everyone, I could think. No distractions, no guys, no fights.Just think and hopefully come up with a way out of this mess.If only I knew where to start. So much had happened over that last few months, where did I begin?“I really hope you were planning on calling me,” I heard someone say from the end of the bed.I sat upright quick, a smile sliding across my face.“It is almost cruel to come back to my room and find you in my bed.” Devlin continued as he walked around the side.“Sorry, I was going to call for you.But your bed got in my way, it’s just so comfy and… I just needed a place to hide away for a while.Where no one would find me.”“I found you.”“Yeah, but I don’t care if you find me.”“You need to stop flirting with me, Trystessa.I just might take it the wrong way.”“Take it however you want.” I said falling back on the bed and looking up at the sparkling ceiling.Screw it, why the hell not.I felt the bed move and turned my head to see Devlin sitting beside me, his eyebrows raised.“You don’t want me to do that.”“I don’t say things I don’t mean.” I looked back at the ceiling.I heard foot steps coming from the other room and Devlin got up and walked over to the open doorway.“Is everything all right in there, Captain?” When I heard the deep, gravelly voice, I knew it was Roman.I’m sure Jax was right at his side.I was quickly becoming acquainted with those two guards; they were never very far from where Devlin was.“Everything is fine,” Devlin answered, his hand held, waiting, on the door.“I wish not to be disturbed.Set up post outside.I will come out when I am ready.” He didn’t wait for a reply, he simply shut the door.“You wish not to be disturbed, huh?”He didn’t respond, just a slight twitch of his lips as he walked back toward the bed.I watched him as he gracefully walked toward me
