.17.10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"Mk 9.11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?The disciples did not know exactly what this meant or how it applied so our Lord first explained this prophecy to them like this:Mt.17.11 And He answered and said, "Elijah is coming and will restore all things;Mk.9.12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.This does not mean that there will be another Elijah in the future even as there will not be another Son of man.This is simply explaining the prophecy to the disciples with more clarity and how this teaching combines with other written texts concerning himself, affirming this teaching as true from their historical perspective as the next verse clarifies.Mt.17.12 but I say to you, that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished.So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."Mk.9.13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.Now this is something quite different.It is no longer `they say to you' but now `I say to you,' can anyone see this? It is Jesus that explaines to us EXACTLY who is meant and no future fulfilment was alluded to by Him.Mt 17.13 Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.Even so the disciples still had to discern the meaning but at least now they had it right in their minds.The Watchtower rejects this truth and by doing so alters biblical chronology as well.The disciples were already in the last days and there would not be another last days as they teach to come later.Malachi speaks of only one Elijah and our Lord was not altering this prophecy in any way, but revealed its one and ONLY fulfillment.The Watchtower in its desperation to associate itself with biblical prophecy must alter our Lord's clear statement of truth and re-apply the texts to itself in order to hold in bondage all the Watchtower witnesses that follow them.Who do you serve?
